  • This is how I think of it. I’m not arguing on the Internet to change the person’s mind. I’m arguing to make sure anyone reading the thread in the future doesn’t come away with the impression that the other person’s argument is flawless.

I’m happy to end an argument by just repeating the facts that the other person is getting wrong. I know their mind isn’t getting changed but I hope that anyone that comes along later will be able to read the thread and clearly understand the logical disconnect the other person’s argument has.

Especially arguing against someone in certain subcultures like the manosphere, yeesh. Their arguments are so subjective and centered around feelings that often all you can do is point that out and hope someone who comes along later sees that their arguments really make no sense.

Be like me and start reading on your phone. Then instead of pretending to be on your phone to avoid awkwardness you get super invested in whatever you’re reading and now you’re genuinely annoyed when someone walks up to talk or the thing you’re waiting for happens.

It hits for me when I’m typing it out and I can already read the braindead response they’re going to type and I don’t want to spend another 2 paragraphs preempting the obvious response and I definitely don’t want to wait a few hours/days to explain why they’re still wrong.

  • I get that the glib answer will be “so they can make money”

But what is the actual thought process they are pretending to go through here? Cause the experience of being a prompt engineer is not some sought after experience like how people pay to be movie PAs for free or work as an artist assistant.

  • I read through that whole thing. What is the demand? It’s just general hate against the trump administration? I’m all in favor but unless the strike has specific legal actionable demands what is the point? Even under the “demands” section of their FAQ it lists a bunch of vague “good” things that they want (all of which I’m in favor of) but says it won’t get into specifics until later.

You do the strike, it panics the ruling class, and then what? There’s nothing they’ve been informed of that they can do. No line that tells them “you can put an end to this if you do XYZ”. Nothing to tell the people whether the strike succeeded or failed. What will that get? A bunch of people who conclude that the strike didn’t work and they need food so they go back to their jobs. Next time the strike comes around, even if it has demands this time, the obvious thought is that it didn’t work last time so why would it work this time and distrust in the people and political ideology that started this strike in the first place.

In my opinion, a movement like this is defined exclusively by their policies and demands. Without those it’s just people throwing a tantrum.
