I used to look around reddit for product suggestions, reddit sucks and I don’t trust the bias anymore due to gorilla marketing.

I figured I could pop the question here, maybe help drive some lemmy traffic!

Any mouse suggestions? Wireless is preferred and the main use case is general desktop. I do play games with it but I play single player rpgs, so it doesn’t need competitive specs.

If you know of a mouse that doesn’t meet the criteria post it anyway, just add the different use case!

Update: Ended up getting the Logitech Master mx 3s, been using at work and home. Has 100% held up to the hype. Big fan of the side scroll and the main mouse wheel can go kinda into continuous mode if you flick it harder. It takes a bit of getting used to, but after 3 days it’s become very intuitive. I also like the multi device connection ability, great for home/office use. Gaming is also just fine (casual gaming specifically).

Cons: No options+ app for Linux, Solaar flatpak works pretty well but I haven’t been able to reprogram the side wheel yet. This one is super superficial and not at all a deal breaker but it bugs me that the dongle doesn’t have a storage spot in the mouse. An internal storage spot would make going from work and back better, I’ve ordered a $10 travel case for it so again it’s nbd.

Also leaks of a Logitech Master 4 source may indicate a new model release this year. Fingers crossed the new button isn’t AI bs.

    Personally, I would recommend a tufted titmouse. I know, I know, you think it’s actually a mouse, but it’s not! It’s a BIRD. They’re super cute.

    I got a Logitech MX Master for general desktop use and am happy with it.

    Good battery life, comfortable, accurate, and the multiple extra function buttons don’t get in the way. I like the motorized flywheel scroll and ability to maintain 3 bluetooth pairings (selectable via button on bottom)

      I’ve used two MxMasters over the last 10+ years and I couldn’t be happier with them. I only replaced my first one because it was white and I couldn’t really clean the rubber scroll wheel properly. The new one has a metal scroll wheel and is much better.

      This seems to be the most recommended mouse, I couldn’t tell if it was marketing hype or genuinely good. Seems genuinely good!

    I am a big fan of the vertical mouse. Currently using the Logitech Lift and happy with it. I’m sure there are other ones that are great too but this is just what I’m using.

    I love my Logitech G502, which I’m sure you will see recommended anywhere you look because it’s pretty popular.

    I’m still using the wired version, but if I were to be in the market for a new one today, the wireless one would be the first I checked out.

    I’m not that picky, so I usually go for whatever Logitech I can find which can connect to a unifying receiver. That way, using solaar (Linux equivalent of that proprietary tool for pairing Logitech devices), I can use just one USB dongle for both mouse and keyboard.

    You already got so much feedback but I’ll chuck one in for the Logitech MX anywhere. Its smaller than the master version but has USBC charging which is important for me, so I only need one cable to charge everything, I make a point to try and get USBC products (keyboard, action cam, bike lights, headphones etc)

    I tried using a wireless Logitech mouse the g305. Dead in a few weeks. I tried using the wireless steelseries Aerox 3 which only lasted a few weeks.

    I ended up with SteelSeries Prime Neo Noir which is wired but has none of the issues I was having with the other mice. This would be my recommendation if you can stomach The Wire

    I’ve used the wired equivalent of the Logitech g502 for a while, and my partner has the wireless one, I liked them as well. I’ve used Logitech, steel series, Razer and Saitek mice over the years, started with a Logitech G7, and there’s a reason I went back to Logitech mice after using some of the others. Imo you can’t really go wrong with one of their midrange models with a decent sensor, won’t break the bank and found them fairly reliable.

    As a bit of an alternate, I know you prefer wireless, but I’ve been using a Ploopy Mouse for few months now. I don’t do online fps stuff anymore, but was great for FPSs (some boomer shooters mainly) and RPGs it’s solid, been playing a lot of Diablo 2 recently and it’s great. It runs qmk so it’s customisable however you want, sensor seems decent and the entire thing is open source, designed for user serviceability.

    Really wish Logitech would make a new/wireless version of the g600, I use it for work and all of the programmable buttons on the side are amazing for productivity. Cut, copy, paste, delete with the mouse is so handy

    Pebble Mouse 2 M350s from Logitech. Silent clicks and works on three devices. Bluetooth pairing, no dongle. Low cost as well. It’s also very small if packing it for travel is necessary.

    I went for a three device mouse due to an elbow injury. I can be watching a video on my laptop and playing sudoku on my tablet without having to bend my elbow for long periods of time.

    Both the mice I use are Logitech.

    Marathon M705 in work. Bought in 2017 and still trucks away in my 9-5. Fantastic scroll and enough buttons for convenience. Batteries last seemingly forever.

    M510 at home. Bought in 2022 and no troubles. Has done me well in the same non-competitive gaming role, but you might appreciate a few more buttons.

    Both use the unifying protocol. Both are pretty cheap too.

    I loved the Logitech G700 (discontinued)

    I loved the Logitech G602 (discontinued)

    Both had the left click button start to die after a few years. Logitech is known for this being a common failure point which SUCKS because they have the best (IMO) mice that are wired/wireless, rechargeable/replaceable batteries, and accessible thumb buttons without having 20 on the side for a “gaming” mouse.

    I tried the G502 but returned it because of crappy button placement. Also hate having a mouse that looks like it should be in one of the Tron movies

    I just want ~4-6 buttons on the side for my thumb that I use for media controls, forward/back, etc. It’s REALLY hard to find that - usually it’s 2 buttons or like 30.

    Right now I’m using the Redragon M811 PRO and like it. Feels a bit cheaper build quality but not fragile. It’s much bigger than previous mice I’ve had which is actually a good thing for me, because I have big hands and didn’t realize it would be more comfortable. I don’t like the number of buttons on the side (a lot) but overall it’s good for my needs and I won’t feel like a chump if it breaks in a couple years, unlike how I feel like with the Logitech ones that are way too expensive to have such a well documented problem with switches wearing out.
