I don’t think y’all are disagreeing but maybe this sentence is somewhat confusing:
If you think LLMs doesnt think (I won’t argue that they arent extremely dumb), please define what is thinking,
Maybe the “doesnt” shouldn’t be there.

LLMs can’t think - only generate statistically plausible patterns
Ah still rolling out the old “stochastic parrot” nonsense I see.
Ah still rolling out the old “computers think” pseudo-science.
I have used LLMs to get some work done and… guess what, it did the work!
Ah yes the old pointless vague anecdote.
What psychological hazard have I fallen for exactly?
Promoting pseudo-science.
Overall D. Neither interesting nor new nor useful.
Another similar article that’s really good:
Infinite money. Capital wants infinite money for their imaginary property in perpetuity. Otherwise they’ll get their state to put you in a cage.
So 3 lines of code is enough “intelligence” for you? I can see how that definition might have been popular among grifters in like the 1930s.
This is a garbage, subjective, pseudo-scientific definition.
And even if I entertain this nonsense, what kind of fool thinks that a minesweeper solver is “intelligent”?
What’s the old sense? A program? “AI” didn’t exist in the old days and it doesn’t exist now.
The logic here is like 3 lines of code maybe? The ubiquity of “AI” grifting has made language meaningless.
In the olde days people used databases for storing data.
I don’t know much about Hugo but, if your data isn’t static, then maybe you shouldn’t use a static website.
Learning vim seems like a right of passage or something.
Yes, I think every developer is dropped into vim unexpectedly at some point (eg. git)… “What is this? How do I close it!!!”
Ignore the “AGI” hype—LLMs are still fancy autocomplete. All they do is predict a sequence of tokens—but it turns out writing code is mostly about stringing tokens together in the right order, so they can be extremely useful for this provided you point them in the right direction.
I’m just super happy to see someone talking about LLMs realistically without the “AI” bullshit.
If LLMs help people code, then that’s great. But stop with the hype, grifting, etc. Kudos to this author for a reasonable take. Extremely rare.
Averages and outdated statistics only tell some of the story… It’s not the boomer age anymore…

Realistically the situation keeps getting much worse, not better. Not just for students but also for faculty, et al.
It was a different time. They didn’t have the same ass technology that we have now.
If you hate this government, you should check out every single government before this.
I expect it’s actually a political piece
Yeah 100% propaganda. Just read the headline. They want anti-genocide protestors in concentration camps.
Yeah if you’re cool with torturing and murdering animals, supporting genocide, destroying the planet… McD’s is pretty sweet! Especially for the kids!
There is no anti-american sentiment, just an overwhelming pro-genocide sentiment within empire.
Fuck this genocidal disinfo.
Imperial news is a mouthpiece for imperial capitalism.
Do nazis attend holocaust memorials?
NYTrash always supporting imperialism, capitalism, fascism, etc.
Which is actually more threatening: a genocidal military empire or withholding minerals from a genocidal military empire? jfc.
