Probably will be most notable for personal desktops with increased software support of consumer hardware. Mainstream only cares about what OS is pre installed, linux users are 99,9% advanced users just by the fact that they take the time to install an OS. Company adoption have the same issue, companies use what have worked before and what most employees are used to… and of course, what is pre installed on the desktops they buy.

Desktop linux is unlikely to happen at any point, just by the above facts. I am also not convinced it is the first choice for most tasks on a desktop. Servers and mobile it works great and other LTS hardware. With that said, I think when governments adopt linux we will definitely see an actual market and ecosystem develop… 2030? Maybe before, because countries will wake up and release its not the best idea to share all their data with MS. I could see something like Trump becoming president again, could actually spur on the adoption rate.

Sure they probably will. At least that is what they show on tv while flashing their logo. But it is a different story when you actually arrive at their location or order online. Companies use all kinds of dark patterns and strategies to get you to buy more or get the high margin items, that are usually their junkier stuff.

Where I am from it is not allowed to run ads with alcohol. What the companies do instead is create a non-alcoholic version of very similar branding and then run ads for that instead…

Very focused on the north American market. Where I live induction stove tops have been more or less standard for 20+ years. BUT I didn’t know special round coils existed for round wokpans. Pretty cool. Although I think a wokpans with a flat bottom is fine for home cooking, maybe get one that is slightly heavier so its able to retain more heat as you work your food. It is kind of ridiculous that this would be an argument to get a gas stove, given that standard gas stoves don’t have a rocket engine flame that is required to get the real wok experience at home anyway. I don’t even think you would want that in a home kitchen. Also it is a bit niche for most people.

Research papers in creative cloud? I am guessing she is using something like InDesign or illustrator to make pdfs or maybe Acrobat? I think you need to clarify what her workflow entails to get better answers.

But going with my assumptions, it sounds like she can get away with using some kind of Office suit instead, maybe 365? not that it would solve the enshitification of apps problem… But I do consider it a stable program both as installed apps and on the web. There are also endless tutorials and support to get if she is running into issues.

With that said, it is probably not worth it if she is a boomer. It would take a long time to get into a new workflow and it would affect her output. If she is used to adobe she should probably stick to it.

Yes I am worried about microplastics in everyday things, for example drinking water from my tap. I am also worried about using plastics for anything food related that is heated up. As such i have removed all plastic containers in our kitchen that would be used near or with heat. Any containers remaining is only for cold foods and dry storage.

Ja, of course. Point being that my friends have not considered the rest for becoming completely self-sufficient. They are very much into tech and less so in food preservation and gardening

I still think these channels are very technical. Using jorgon that is completely foreign to someone just strictly using their computer to get work done. I am pretty deep into the different topics and even I had have to look up what they talk about.

I think you have found a nieche to fill. Problem is when you don’t really deep dive the topics or it is strictly educational, you might get bored if you are a somewhat technical person, that is not a great recipe for a YouTube channel. You will probably also have to remake the videos as software gets updated.

Also most viewers är linux nerds. The average person don’t spend all day at a computer at work just to go home and ‘work’ more by spending time watching a videos on how to work more. That means you should probably target companies and organizations directly with your content, that could be a hard sell if you expect to make an income.

With all that said, I like the idea and even if you only make a few videos you will probably learn alot, try it and see how you like it!

Yes it is very interesting. I have friends who buy solar panels and home batteries with one of the ideas being in case of emergency being able to go complete ‘island’. I argue that is all well and good, but within 1h the broadband, and 4g/5g does down, any longer than that you can’t even make a phonecall from a regular cellphone and your smarthouse will probably not work anymore because it requires an active connection. After a few hours all the food at the nearest supermarket will be spoiled and thrown away. My point being, it is very nice idea in theory to get all this tech but I think you have to realize how dependent you still are of the infrastructure around you. And even if you have heat and light for yourself it does not really give you much more time being comfortable in a crisis, best case you can cook a few more meals and have the light on for maybe a day longer than your neighbors, but that is it.

I have not seen any official announcements but I think they have stopped offering it for a while. Except for some regions, i saw the xps 13 plus with Ubuntu at their German website a while ago.

I think the best case I hope for is that they are just waiting for Ubuntu 24.04 LTS
