My experience is pretty good as the team has the general mindset of, “Avoid waisting other people’s time, get stuff done, and do quality work. If you are doing that we don’t care what your process is.”
A lot of movement is going to draw people’s attention. It’s just baked into humans. If you need to do movement that is going to be in people’s line of sight while they work, just go for a walk.
You will feel watched and judged. But the reality is they have their own work and problems to worry about. Generally if your not interfering with them doing their own thing, they don’t care.
People being OK with you doing off task things like reading would be like an earned privilege if allowed at all. You are new and will need to prove that you can deliver. If you earn a reputation for consistent, quality, on time work you manager will be more open to you managing your own schedule.
Volume control is important. Most conversations seem to happen at the level between normal conversation and whispering. This generally means conversations are not disruptive to people nearby. But always assume everyone around you can hear everything you say and choose topics/words accordingly.
I didn’t share my ADHD with my manager until I was well established in my role and trusted that wanted to help me succeed. I’m not saying that is the correct choice, just what I did. Before that we did have many conversations about how I can work most effectively finding the balance of what I need and what the team needs.
As for accomodations, I would get explicit permission to were noise blocking headphones and a desk that doesn’t face an area with a lot of traffic. People moving in your line of sight all day is super distracting.
To be fair, if our AI was as capable as his AI vibe coding would be viable.
Basically it is the trendy word to say, “This thing does not align to my narrow world view and is therefore bad and wrong.”
Seems like still aligned on the general theme of “polite acknowledgement”.
The challenge is that in reality you have to keep making the choice. Nothing changes with one grand proclamation. Maybe it starts there, but it means nothing without backing it up with hundreds of other choices.
I know one personal challenge I am working on is judging myself by my best day. Everyone has variance of capability day to day. Beating myself up because everyday isn’t my best day is silly.
It also makes sense if they are on calling the entire computer “the hard drive” like grandma and the fans kicked on.
I understand it is normal human behavior to focus on negative things and an evolved survival trait. But it is kind of sad that no answers have any positive thoughts about the future. So I will try one:
Computer and robotic technology will improve and get cheaper. It will become feasible for home bound people to be able to have some sort of participation in society through telepresence.
When mine did that it required a battery replacement. Got replacement from this site: https://batterysharks.com/. Also, maybe you should stop doing things that aren’t absolutely necessary until you’ve taken a nap.
I’m not on a stimulant beside caffeine. But I have noticed a similar issue. 3 things I do to help:
As for food functionality it is very comparable to software remote control of a computer. There are 3 key features that stand out:
Edit: Because this is essentially full access to the machine as if you where physically at it, it should be considered a security risk. Not saying that you need to be scared of it, but you should be aware of the risk and protect it from unauthorized access.
I would argue that under the right conditions it could negatively impact physical growth. As social creatures, humans can experience a lot of stress from isolation. I think it well understood that intense prolonged stress can have many negative impacts on the body. It could negatively impact physical development in that way.
My Dad was a truck driver and died from bladder cancer. Please don’t hold it when you don’t have to.
There will always be problems and money offers solutions to a lot of problems. So even if your problems grow, it’s possible for your solutions to grow faster.
It sounds like you are fundamentally trying to embrace healthier habits. I would suggest starting by examining the feeling. Just spend some time thinking about it before acting. Why do I feel motivated to do this? How will I feel while doing it? How will I feel after? Do I gain something from this worth the downsides?
The goal is to make a decision about what you are doing and why instead of just falling into old patterns of behavior with thought.
My perspective. I don’t think anyone has done anything wrong in this situation. You are clearly upset because you are worried about your friend. You are upset because the other person does not feel the concerned for your friend the way you are. That response is understandable, but not rational. Humans be like that.
I think the idea of leaving your family celebration early to spend some time with your friend is a reasonable solution. Nobody gets everything, but nobody is left out.
I understand that my view point is lacking in years of nuance for the situation and could be totally off. I leave you to judge how accurate/useful my perspective is.
I’m inclined to treat the body with what I would call “professionalism”. You are not emotionally attached beyond the desire to do your job well. Though I am not opposed to some people getting a burial at sea. The better for them to be forgotten.
Many times the best way to respond to strong emotions is to just sit with it. Sit and do nothing but experience it. Don’t try to “solve the problem”, don’t shove it down.
Yeah. Human memory evolved to keep us alive not happy. Brain assumes anything that stressful must be life threatening and we obviously should remember that so we can avoid it in the future.
I personally find having a rational understanding of the utility of emotions helps me process them.
Given historical evidence of my writing that is not a sure thing.
