It’s not hubris. Humans are one of, if not the most adaptable species on the planet. Unless it gets so hot that the caves become uninhabitable, we’ll squeak by.
I see it like this: If there is a way, we will find it. It’s in our DNA.
This quote really stuck with me. It’s where I see the silver lining:

That’s where we disagree. I think there will be small inhabitable areas of the planet for centuries, at least. If not, there are caves. Humans are nothing if not -persistent.-

We survived an ice age, though, and we’re very highly adaptable. Plus, we will hold on to some percentage of technical knowledge that will help us adapt faster.

They say they want to improve, but I kinda feel like they aren’t even self aware enough to know what they want.
It’s not that kind of lack, it’s more like… They are angry at how their life ended up, but can’t see how or why they got there, as it relates to their own actions. It’s all someone and something else’s fault.
Literally the most important question. This is a great point, and I need to give it more weight in this situation.
The problem is that I usually get short, angry replies when I prompt a why question.
The problem is that this person almost seems to have an aversion to introspection.
I think you hit the nail on the head. It’s being made about hypothetical implications, instead of being taken at face value…
Here’s another one: Are you more of a silly person or a serious person?
There are implications to both, and few would self identify as strictly one or the other, but I can easily see which side I tend to align with without labeling myself a “Serious/Silly Person”
It’s really blowing my mind that this concept isn’t more intuitive. (I’ve had this conversation with a family member who has a view very similar to yours)
Just for clarification, I don’t think it’ll be fast. It will just be faster than without it.
Also, I think we’ll hang on to a lot because the survivor base will likely be made up of people from all walks of life. STEM Professionals, teachers, carpenters, you name it. And as long as we learned our lesson about religion, we’ll pass that knowledge on.
