As others already wrote, the original meaning has been specific to awareness of racial discrimination, later broadened to general discrimination topics.
But that is just the US, and e.g. in Germany these roots (and also the connection to wake/asleep) are mostly missing.
So it is just a normal imported word, with no clear antonym existing.
Also because of this only recent import of the term, it is less connected to its original meaning, but often only associated with a well-intended, but superficial kind of activism.
E.g. it is heavily associated with a generally not very popular over-gendering going on in official and news texts, which leads to a broken kind of the German language. (German is heavily gendered, but a word’s gender often has nothing to do with the sexual gender).
So the term had a somewhat negative connotation to begin with, even in more progressive circles.
Doesn’t hinder the far right from doing anti-woke campaigns nonetheless, wokism is just such a nice (but actually in the broader population none-existent) opponent. And they use the term “Anti-Woke”, because it just makes sense for an imported word.
Normal News:
Concerned and somewhat worried.
Mostly official-statement- and fact-driven. But that’s normal German news culture (at least compared to the US and if you stay away from the fringe tabloid style media).
Social media:
I guess, that depends heavily on your bubble, as everywhere…
In the parts I am present in, it is source of constant amusement, as the events in the US and the views expressed by US people are just completely ridiculous to the more liberal part of Germany.
But this is probably different for the right wing bubbles, like that of AfD supporters.
You have some autocorrect typo there:
“That’s all I was singing when I saw the hole.”

The sentence is a strong indication that the complimenting person wants to do some small talk.
And is starting with a personal remark commenting on one’s appearance.
I am a rather introvert person with some additional slight social anxiety issues.
Wouldn’t directly interpret it as “danger”, but would definitely get uncomfortable and depending on how good I know the person also anxious.
Ich wusste bis vor 10s noch nicht mal, was eine “Pfeffiflasche” ist… :-)
Sieht wieder aus wie eins der Dinge, für die ich zu südwestdeutsch bin, um sie zu kennen.
Yeah, but I actually prefer libre wolf!
[ok, ok, letting myself out…]

Beides Lebensmittel mit potentiel ordentlicher Fruktose-Ladung…
Fruktose Intoleranz?
Good idea, I could publish a podcast and have a look on how it behaves!
So, just need to think of a podcast topic nobody is likely to want to listen to… hmm…
Test has actually been done in 2025, just 2 or three months ago.
And yes, it took until the next day for the count to increase.
Background for the test was, that I am not using paid streaming services any more (and use ad-blocking apps) but wanted to see if the artists still get the views counted.
Although actually I am more interested if this is also true for YT-music (which is the main one I am using a lot without paying or watching ads).
One might assume it is the same as for the videos, but I don’t know how to test it… So if anyone has an idea…?
Yes, it does.
I had the same question a while back and tested it with an obscure video I had published myself (20 views within 10 years or so…)
Views using Newpipe were counted.
But only once (when watching multiple times in a row).
That and 2x23 coin-flip-like random chromosome selections.
