The Star Wars universe is not interesting enough for all the TV show and movies being made. George Lucas is not Tolkien and the world building was fine enough for the original trilogy, but it’s simply too boring for more content. Tolkiens work gets more interesting as you learn more about the details. Star Wars is the opposite. The more information you get the less interesting it is.
Also the Jedis are just cops/soldiers. They are not inherently good.
And Crusader Kings 3
The network effect is definitely at play. But the usability is not really there yet. Just finding communities through the app I’m using is not always working right.
Lemmy is not ready for a more mainstream user base.
But is this actually a problem. Does people go around now and need proof that they bought some property?
To me it seems like blockchain is a solution looking for problems that doesn’t really exist.
So in theory it would be terrible to use as proof for ownership.
I mean the US has done a lot of genocide. Hitler took inspiration from how the US dealt with it’s native people. It’s not that strange that a nation founded on genocide and slavery is okay with that.
You are not wrong. It’s a very unfair world we have build. And a lot of people are struggling even though there are plenty of resources to make sure every single person on earth could have their needs met and the opportunity to live a meaningful life.
BUT we have to dare to hope. Because otherwise we just give up and the people on top is counting on that. ”We have the power and there is nothing you can do about that”. I think David Graeber is one of the most hopeful people to read:
“Hope is a tricky business among intellectuals and activists. Cynicism, though it’s often inaccurate about both human nature and political possibilities, gives the appearance of sophistication; despair is often seen as sophisticated and worldly-wise while hopefulness is seen as naive, when the opposite is not infrequently true. Hope is risky; you can lose, and you often do, but the records show that if you try, sometimes you win.
His essay Despair Fatigue opens: “Is it possible to become bored with hopelessness?”

I had a time where I had to make new friends in a new city, and what I learned is that you have to take initiative a lot in the beginning of a new friendship. You have to suggest something to do together maybe the first 2 - 4 times. After some time it should be more equal if not find some other friends.
Immich might work.
From Reddit:
“I bought an Umbrel.com home server hoping to have a dedicated device to run my favorite software on. I spent $500 and got an Umbrel.
Their “app store” is small, outdated (from an app update perspective), and filled with cryptocurrency junk. I should also mention that its difficult to use non-approved software, requiring your own GitHub repo with config files, docker setup, and a few other things. No one-click button to import software.
The hardware is half as good as a used 1L mini-PC that you can get on Amazon for $170, and itll give you more control.
The Umbrel has an HDMI port hidden inside, so if you want to use it you must cut a hole in the side for it. The only way to accees its interface is with a slow, buggy, and heavy web UI.
Don’t buy an Umbrel, buy a $100 used 1L machine and save yourself a headache and $400.
EDIT: I asked for a refund and was denied since they don’t offer them to anyone. Huge red flag!”
Not really. At least WhatsApp is End to end encrypted by default and Telegram is not. Use Signal instead.
There is a warning from a user on Reddit. Might be worth considering before buying. https://www.reddit.com/r/selfhosted/comments/16qekm6/dont_buy_an_umbrel/
That’s cheap. If a raspberry pi 5 with power supply, case, nvme ssd is about 270 euro in my country. That’s about the same for a N100 mini pc.
Why not get an Intel N100? It’s about the same price and much better performance. Raspberry Pis is kind of overpriced these days.
Leaving would also leave room for competitors to grow big. The market is still there and if American companies won’t deliver other companies will.
Maybe make it a non-profit like Signal. As soon as the motivation is maximising share holder values, the goal becomes to extract as much value out of the customers. And effective dating apps should not want their customers to return. It’s a conflict of interest.
You parents would just tell you something and you assumed it was true until you learned years later they where just winging it with bullshit.
