Heh, 2012? That’s not that long ago… me anxiously remembering 2012 was 13 years ago

    Fuck, time flies

Some of the internet is going to be real strange in 50+ years when long since dead people are immortalized in one off pictures or videos.

My older brother found our grandmother on Google Earth quite a few years ago, right in front of her house where she’d sit in the afternoons. It’s crazy - it’s like she’s never left. I’m glad she died before she had to witness the war in the Ukraine. Слава Україні 💙

My parents live in a fairly small town. I tried to go looking for my late father in the Streetview pics. There were a few more Streetview photos from the last few years, after his death, but before that, there was just one set from over 10 years ago, and nothing beyond that. Couldn’t see him on Streetview, but saw his car in front of the place where he worked in his spare time.

He’s probably no longer there, the pic is quite old and Google has updated a lot of its street view stuff over the years. Unless this is some place where 2012 was the first time that google decided to map - in that case it may be pretty low on the priority list for updating.

On Google Earth (rather than Google maps), you can view all the previous streetview photos from any location that has them - so the 2012 one won’t be the default one, but you can switch back to it with a few clicks.
