Hey it’s me, I’m you from the year 2028. The only way out is to take more lsd but we didn’t realize it soon enough and now global warming (we’re calling it that again) has made the necessary ingredients impossible to source. You have to take a lot more acid right now in order to break out.

    Godspeed traveler.

I probably wouldn’t try to convince you that it’s not a hallucination, but rather ask “so what if it is?”.

For example, I’m fairly sure that I’m not currently tripping, but I am also certain that my brain is the ultimate unreliable narrator. How do I know if any of this is real, or ever has been real? What does “real” even mean? Honestly, I don’t know, but ultimately it doesn’t change anything about how I choose to act in life

Yeah… I’mma try to convince myself that I am part of that hallucination, and all this shitballs that’s been happening the past 6 years was part of it and nothing is real.

Reality is the hallucination we choose to believe is real. We get reinforcement from those around us that the hallucination is the “real” one, not knowing that their hallucination and ours are completely different.

And of course being wilfully oblivious that right behind our hallucinations where we can’t see is the empty void

There are a number of reality checks that you can do to check whether you’re awake or (lucid) dreaming. I would suggest that you try some of those.

For example, apparently your hands always look odd in dreams. They might seem fine until you try to focus on them, then suddenly you’ll notice they’re the wrong colour or shape or have the wrong number of fingers.

There are also some other reality checks in that Wiki if you’re feeling bored.

Count the fingers in your head or out loud. They may have the wrong number of fingers, the number may change while you try to count them, the fingers can be deformed and keep on changing when you look at them.

Ah shit, my suspicion was correct - I’m an AI, and a bad one at that. Now I know why the world around me doesn’t feel real.
