Eyes provide some data, but then the brain starts drawing conclusions. Usually, that’s good enough, but when you feel like your eyes may be deceiving you, the brain has taken some “artistic liberties”.

That’s a pretty solid point. Can’t argue with that.
you can say that about everything, and I mean literally everything. Nothing exists in your world that is not essentially just a signal your brain perceived.
Eyes don’t provide that much of precise data either, to be honest. There’s only a small spot in the middle of your field of vision that is actually clear, the rest is reconstructed by your brain. Artistic liberties in this case are required if you want to see anything at all.
It’s kinda like AI upscaling.
