I was aware of the “change my mind” meme. I put it down to being British, so less aware of USA political figures.
The amount of posts and discussion about him getting shot is way out of proportion to his level of fame/influence, especially over here.
For the amount of gun violence in America this is the most high profile assassination that’s happened on US soil that I know of in my lifetime. I do think there’s some amount of boosting going on with the Republicans trying to post-humously elevate the status of this relatively average (and honestly probably waning) Republican political pundant, but I honestly can’t think of anyone in the US who’s been successfully assassinated during my lifetime, especially not with so many cameras already recording and such widely shared footage of the event. Please feel free to prove me wrong (hehe see what I did there?)
Like the only comparable events I can think of would be that time someone threw his shoes at George W Bush and the attempt on Trump’s life where the bullet’s shockwave cut his ear. The dude with the hammer who went after Nancy and Paul Pelosi would also be up there if there was widely shared footage of the event. Maybe the infamous security camera footage of the Columbine shooters?
