The other day I dropped and shattered the front of my pixel 7a. I plan on switching the screen for it and figured it was a good a time as any to test that the daily nextcloud backup was working. Last thing I wanted was to accidentally brick my phone and discover that the backup wasnt doing anything. So I flashed my old pixel 3a with LineageOS and after booting I installed F-droid, then nextcloud, and it then it allowed me to go through the restore process. The process itself was really smooth. It allowed me to pick from recent backups, and went through the process of reinstalling most of the apps I had on my previous phone, along with the app data on most of the apps it installed. For example, my saved locations in organic maps were there, along with all my email accounts in Thunderbird which was great, Jellyfin, Immich, and discord was already logged in which was nice. Had to manually re-allow permissions like access to media for Immich. All of my text messages and contacts were there with one caveat. My SMS app was fossify messages installed from F-droid, and the app was installed from the restore. But for some reason. It dated all of my text messages to the day of restore so all of my texts were out of order, it also sent a text automatically to a friend of mine that failed to send a long time ago. Was pretty funny but I hope it didn’t send any messages to anyone else (he was the only one who responded anyway). I switched back to the stock sms app and all of the messages were back in order and normal. None of my pictures were backed up which was fine and expected, I have been using immich and nextcloud auto upload to back up my stuff. My termux app data and didn’t come over which was a bit of a bummer but nbd. My OSMand data didn’t come over which wouldve been annoying if my old phone wasn’t accessible. Looks like Osmand has their own cloud service which is whatever. Also NewPipe didn’t install or have any app data once I installed it which would have been nice. Could export my settings because I still had access to my old phone but I may look into why that didn’t seem to backup properly. Also the restore didn’t restore the locations of my apps/widgets or my background. Doesn’t bother me but figured it was worth noting. Something I had switched off was file backup so cant speak to how well that would work. Figured I don’t see too much info as to how well this kind of backup works for people so thought I’d post my experience while sitting around in a lobby. Also appologies for the wall of text, was just typing it all out on my phone, didn’t spend any time formatting lol.

TLDR: Overall it worked quite well and would recommend as a form of backup though you should be aware of what is important to you and ensure that those things are backing up propely. 4/5
