Its normal in the sense that it is typical. If you are unexperienced and/or anxious it can affect the time you last. When you are comfortable with the your partner, not stressed, healthy and experienced you should be able to last for very long time. In my opinion the thing that affects most is the mood you are in.

Just to reinforce the previous replies, KDE Plasma is the desktop environment you are looking for. Is the most similar interface to the Windows desktop. They recently got huge donations and is in the uprising in developement compared to the Gnome desktop environment which unfortunately had some layoffs and funding has decreased.

And as for the distribution you would want something that supports your hardware well and packages the software you need/want(you can always fill the gaps with flatpaks). I can only recommend for you to check their respective packaging information.

My guess is that Debian with KDE Plasma as your desktop should suffice your all needs.

(Coming from a guy who has used Ubuntu, Debian, Manjaro, Void, EndeavorOS, Manjaro, Arch and most desktop environments.)

I’m on River too, but I still wish one could move windows across monitors just like in Sway and Hyprland. I’m referring to the fallback window movement when it reaches the end of a monitor and there is an available monitor in that direction so it sends the window to said available monitor. I think it makes for a low cognitive effort workflow.

Overall I would say it is more stable and less features than Hyprland. And recently it has Waybar modules so you can have a complete status bar. Personally would prefer Niri over Hyprland on a laptop if I do not plan on connecting monitors. The issue I had is that there are too many actions available to move windows including across monitors and setting simple keybinds for all of those becomes a problem. It just did not work for me as I use two monitors.
