Oh
Freetube
I still don’t understand how that platform works.
When two men love each other very much, they host a freetube instance where they upload their videos.

“You can fucking try…” 🙃
I once saw a documentary about Bedouin tribes that were dying out. The problem was very simple, from the outside; they were killing virtually all of their female children.
The team interviewed an elder of one tribe, asking him about this practice. As expected, the elder said that parents wanted sons to continue their family names.
“If no-one in the tribe has any daughters, where will these sons find wives?” asked the interviewer. The elder confidently replied without hesitation, “They will get wives from other tribes.” “But what if the other tribes kill their female babies just like your tribe does?” the interviewer persisted (In fact, they had met people from several tribes, and indeed they all followed this terrifying practice). The elder looked at the interviewer like he was a slow child. “They will get wives from other tribes.”
The elder looked at the interviewer like he was a slow child. “They will get wives from other tribes.”
I believe Darwin might have had something to say about this attitude…
I have literally had this argument, but it was about shrinking population growth. “We will just have more immigrants.” From where, outside of West Africa and Central Asia, all the countries have fertility rates below replacement levels and even those countries’ levels are dropping.
Tbh, immigration isn’t the worst “solution”.
We do have an overpopulation problem. Well, an overconsumption times overpopulation problem, really.
We could fix that by either consuming less (which we apparently, as a species, really don’t want) or by having fewer people (which we apparently really want).
So, in the end, reducing population isn’t a real problem. Even if the population shrinks by 50% each generation (~25 years, for the sake of the argument), there will still be 250mio people left even after 5 generations. The trend should probably be reversed sometime then, but until then it’s really not an issue on the species survival aspect and it would actually be really good for the planet and our long-term survival.
But until then we have mainly one problem: our economic system is based on infinite growth, which can’t work. So again there are two main solutions: either we bring in people from other countries, who benefit from a higher standard of living here while supporting our economic system, or we get rid of the real parasites and freeloaders in our societies: the ultra rich. And again, for some reason we really don’t want to get rid of the rich.
Did he mean “from other tribes” as in from elsewhere in the world, far enough that their culture is not as concerned with family names as theirs?
“Never interrupt your enemy while they are making a mistake.”
I’m not trying to imply that beduins are the enemy, more that insanely stupid people are and since I don’t wanna get into eugenics, well, this is all I got.
It’s like we’ve taken it upon ourselves to turn reality into THE stupidest version of any dystopia ever imagined by a human brain…
You want Terminator? Sure, but Skynet will be crap and people will die en masse due to infrastructure fuck-ups.
You want 40k? Sure, but the Men of Iron will be LLMs. Good luck figuring out those STCs once you develop beyond bonking pieces of wood together. Again.
You want 1984? Ok, but Big Brother is a Blackbox algorithm which has no idea what a human being is and just corrupts your feeds until it’s nothing but inaccuracies and YouTube Poop and is selling your actual waist size and toilet paper preferences to random online advertisers.
You want Waterworld? Well, here! Have all the water you need! Good luck with your ocean based society once your flesh will start slow-roasting in about 30-40 years of living like this!
You want Mad Max? Well, better make it happen fast, because there won’t be enough oil for it! Maybe solarpunk? Also, we’re doing Waterworld first, let’s see how you make it through that.
There are more, I’m sure, but I’m pissed off now.
We’re trying to build the Torment Nexus from the famous novel Don’t Build The Torment Nexus, but keep failing miserably and the Torment Nexus keeps blowing up killing random bystanders. We continue to try though.
Hey, you’re not alone in this feeling. And it’s OK to be pissed as well. As an unemployed senior web dev with over 20 years in this field, trying to navigate this job market is fucking laughable. There’s an absolute flood of people just like me flooding every job posting with resumes, but the jobs never get taken down.
Junior dev positions are getting flow fed by senior devs needing work. The whole scene has been buttfucked by AI to boot, so my field is circling the drain already.
I guess a life of petty crime might pan out better…
Jesus, yeah, I have a lot of friends in that position… I was lucky enough to be able to quit before things became outright quicksand and am looking into completely different professions at this point. I don’t want to touch a computer for anything other than fucking about in my free time. Maybe some data entry, but that’s it. At least the diversity somewhat negates the impact of just how dire things are, I guess.
I honestly don’t know how we’ll get ourselves out of this one if things keep going the way they have.
I don’t know your stack, but I’ve heard Wikimedia Foundation has quite a few remote positions open.
Cool, now do Idiocracy… oh wait we’re almost there…
Edit I’m good at missing points
I would legitimately take Camacho over orangeboi. Camacho at the very least pointedly consults an expert.
At least idiocracy was fun, and not a huge depression hole
You want Mad Max? Well, better make it happen fast, because there won’t be enough oil for it!
Mad Max is about the end of oil.
The first movie was all with ethanol vehicles, that people converted after oil run out. The second movie is about a group of people that found an old tanker ship, and one pulling oil drop by drop from a dead wheel. The third movie is about people using methane for everything because there was no more oil.
And then the next two are about huge reserves of surface oil all over the place.
Ooh, well, thank you kindly for clarifying the first one, at least! I was always under the impression that, although oil (or lack thereof) caused that apocalypse, the nutsos were just driving around on diesel all day long, and it kinda’ didn’t make much sense to me:)) But, hey, fast cars go boom, brain happy!
They explain it on the beginning of the movie. Max has one of the 2 or 3 cars on the city because he’s a road-cop, fuel is expensive as hell, so they insist he shouldn’t use a lot of it.
The criminals there go from city to city stealing the little fuel they have.
Dammit, I really need to rewatch that one, I think my brain always misses the point because, again, fast cars go vroom…
Need to rewatch the third as well, now that you mentioned it.
:( it’s true

Vibe coding will kill our industry
I think it’s opposite, it will cover the industry in shit that someone will have to clean up.
I agree. But in the meantime we are getting killed.
Only web and information exchange. Hardware and critical systems are intact. Web and information needs better place than browsers from a long time. That’s why I am betting on fediverse, but I don’t think that’s enough.
And the few people left with the ability to clean up the mess will make bank.
Yeah, same as crafts-people now.
Assembly lines increased minimum quality while reducing the maximum quality and caused a scarcity of people learning to make stuff themselves. So now the people that do, get paid more per amount of work. IDK how much work they get though.
Companies that foster their juniors to first learn to solve problems on their own and then learn to use these tools to increase their output in a safe and efficient manner will most likely triumph over companies that seek to run an ai code farm.
I think you’re wrong. But not because you’re illogical. On the contrary I think you’re thinking rationally if you assume businesses are running to make better products. If you do. You’re right.
These companies are not running to make better products than their competitors. They are running to monopolize their industry to a degree that gives them enough power to sell absolute garbage.
Look no further than the gaming industry. This is the exact type of garbage we are seeing from other industries now.
They are not interested in making better products. They are interested in making profits. And if the entire market is held together by 2-3 major players all replacing workers with AI slop they will have no reason to change. They will all do it together.
No amount of “indie” projects will ever threaten their market domination.
This is then future that will happen. Don’t expect “markets” to save us from this. The myth of “free markets” is how we got here in the first place.
Realistically… which company will do that? Honest question.
Consulting firms that make their money fixing vibe coding
That’s not a half bad business model
Absolutely the way to go. But will they be able to do it fast enough before being pushed out by market forces?
It’s always about the bottom dollar (see: MVP). This will cause another .com bubble to burst.
